How to choose the size and shape of the picture?

Picture form
- The first tip is to assess what geometric shape your wall is for which you are looking for a painting. (square, vertical rectangle, horizontal rectangle)
2. If the wall is large and empty, it is easy to determine its shape. If the wall is divided by any elements, such as furniture, windows, decorative elements such as a wooden wall, moldings - evaluate only the empty space between these elements, where you will hang the picture.
Ideally, the painting should replicate the shape of the wall.
Of course there are exceptions.
For example. We have a wall shape - a very clear vertical rectangle. A picture in the shape of a vertical rectangle should fit, but we want to place a table with a chair against that wall. What happens? Our wall visually shortens, because part of it is blocked by the table with a chair.
In this case, we can hang not only a vertical rectangle, but also a square-shaped painting will look really good.
Other tips: (related to the shape of the picture)
Horizontal rectangular paintings often look great above sofas or beds.
BUT - if you have particularly high ceilings - it's worth considering other shapes. Sometimes paintings that fill more space upwards look better. Squares, vertical rectangles, maybe even several in one place (diptychs, triptychs).
Image size
There is one simple rule that applies in most cases.
If you hang a painting above a piece of furniture, such as a sofa, it looks beautiful and harmonious when the painting occupies 2/3 of the width of the sofa or more.
Example: The width of the sofa is 210cm, so 2/3 will be 140 cm and it can be even more.
If you are hanging on a narrower wall, you should leave some space on the sides so that the painting doesn't look cramped, but also don't choose something so tiny that it disappears into the wall and looks too small.
